چکیده

Linear motors are widely used in cryogenic fields to drive Stirling-type cryocoolers. Generally the Joule heat loss associated with copper lead is considered as the main loss in motors while the iron loss is ignored at a lower frequency operation, not only because it’s regarded as small enough but also it’s difficult to measure or calculate. This paper introduces an experimental method to measure the iron loss for linear motors. Two kinds of movingmagnet linear motors have been tested, one is known as single coil and magnet linear motor, and the other as double coils and magnets linear motor. Dependence of iron loss on frequency and displacement are investigated. Results show that there is a 1.6 power exponent relation between iron loss and frequency in the single-coil movingmagnet linear motor, and its iron loss come to be the same as copper loss at 75 Hz, it even grows to 1.65 times of copper loss at 100Hz. As for the double coils and magnets linear motor, there is a 1.3 power exponent relation between iron loss and frequency, and its iron loss percentage is only 15% at 120 Hz compared with 68% in the single-coil linear motor. Iron loss is proved to be significant in linear motors especially at higher frequency.

Optimum design of a double-sided permanent magnet linear synchronous motor to minimize the detent force

In the permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM), force ripple is harmful, useless and disturbing. The force ripple is basically composed of two components: detent force and mutual force ripple. This force is influenced by the geometric parameters of the permanent magnet (PM) motors; such as width, thickness and length of the magnet poles, length and thickness of the rotor and stato...

Geometry optimization of five-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors using Bees algorithm

Among all types of electrical motors, permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are reliable and efficient motors in industrial applications. Because of their superiority over other kinds of motors, they are replacing conventional electric motors. On the other hand, high-phase PMSMs are good candidates to be used in certain industrial and military projects such as electric vehicles, spacecraf...

The Effect of Magnet Width and Iron Core Relative Permeability on Iron Pole Radii Ratio in Spoke-Type Permanent-Magnet Machine: An Analytical, Numerical and Experimental Study

In this paper, we present a mathematical model for determining the optimal radius of the iron pole shape in spoke-type permanent-magnet (PM) machines (STPMM) in order to minimize the pulsating torque components. The proposed method is based on the formal resolution of the Laplace’s and Poisson’s equations in a Cartesian pseudo-coordinate system with respect to the relative permeability effect o...

Modeling of Iron Losses of Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motors

Permanent-magnet (PM) motors offer potential energy savings as compared with induction motors because of the virtual elimination of rotor loss and the reduction of stator loss from operation near unity power factor. In PM machines, iron losses form a significant fraction of the total loss partly due to the nonsinusoidal flux density distribution. Design optimization therefore requires good mean...
